Sr. Ellen is the new Congregational Leader of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd throughout the world!

She is the 12th Congregational Leader since the time of St. Mary Euphrasia. This is monumental and joyous news for the Sisters. The Sisters from all over the world have been meeting and discerning together, whom God might be calling to be the next leader and it’s our very own Sr. Ellen. She moved on 10/24/15 to Rome, Italy where she will be stationed for the next six years when she is not traveling the world to visit Good Shepherd programs, sisters and partners in mission.

In terms of the process of selection, the Sisters have been meeting in their own Provinces to discern directions and dialogue about a vision for the next six years, as well as nominate sisters whom they feel would be able to move the Congregation forward at this time. Then they send their responses to the current Central Leadership Team. In addition, sisters from every Province gathered last year in Intercontinental groupings (there were five of these inter-continental groupings depending upon regions) to further pray, discern and suggest directions/vision. The NY Province participated in an Intercontineal Assembly and our Contemplative Assembly was last year in Quito, Ecuador. These meetings culminate with a Congressional Chapter that began the first week in June and is still in process at Our Mother House in Angers, France. Congregational Chapters happen every six years.

Some alumni may remember Sr. Ellen as their social worker at Collier HS. Before leaving Collier for her position as Congregational Leader, Sr. Ellen was the executive director of Collier Services for 12 years.

We are so very proud of Sr. Ellen and wish her well in Rome. A big congratulations and shout out of much love to Sr. Ellen!
